Origami For Kids

When your kids are bored or do not know what to do, why not introduce them to the art of origami.  A child is usually introduced to origami without knowing what it is called.  They see you making a paper airplane or a sailboat, and they get interested.  Because kids are naturally imaginative, origami can entertain them and is a great way to teach them creativity.

Origami is the art of folding paper into different forms and shapes.  It is a wonderful way to spend time and bond with your children doing an activity that produces beautiful pieces of work to treasure.

Origami means paper folding in Japanese.  ORI is to fold and KAMI means paper.  Thus, they form the word, “origami.”  In Japan, it is an art form that has been handed down from the parent to the child through many generations.  Most Japanese kids have been entertaining themselves by making origami for centuries.

Using simple origami techniques, your kids can create shapes games and decorations.  Even very young children can learn to create paper forms like animals, birds, fish, geometric shapes, puppets, toys and masks.  Origami for kids is easy and fun, especially with some of the wonderful origami sets available on the market today.

When your kids start doing origami, it is often best to buy origami for kids set.  This way your kids will have the right materials which are going to be easy to work with and clear instructions to follow to produce their Origami work.  The advantage of an origami for kids set is that everything is ready to go and the papers are fun and engaging for the kids.

Origami is best introduced to kids who are around 6 years old.  At this age, most children have more patience, and they love to engage in activities that require accuracy and attention to detail.

You can get design instructions at bookstores or online.  It is best to start with simple shapes, and once you become familiar with the different types of symbols, and you can work your way up to teaching your kids more complicated designs.

You will need to demonstrate to your kids the folds, or if they are still quite young, help them make the creases and folds.  Check out instructional videos as sometimes it is hard to understand origami if you have never done it before, and videos are a useful way to see how to make a particular fold or crease is done.

Now that you have some simple steps to get started, you will see that origami is a fun and entertaining craft for your children.  They love to see their creations, and they will have hours of imaginative play with their designs.
